Kenmore Dryer Heat Element Repair

July 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

Dryer electrical problem?

Sears Kenmore Electric Dryer. Spins, but NOT hot air. Thinking it's the thermal fuse or heating element. Can any of these are replaced by yourself, or do I need a repair man? Any idea as to the repair costs? Does it penalty, or should I look to get a new unit? Thx!

All your questions depend on something else. First, umplug dryer. Do you know how to read a volt / ohm meters? If so, remove the fuse and the heating element circuit and take an ohm reading. If either is open, it is not your problem. You can buy parts replacement at Sears and it would be cheaper than having a service man to do so. Repair yourself is always cheaper than buying new, however, if you called in a repairman, is a toss up. That said, get a repair estimate from Sears, and then assess which way is cheaper. Repair or replace. This of course is assuming you're handy with tools and electricity.
